Adolescents and Young Adults

The PEW research center found in a survey conducted in 2024 that teens are more stressed than ever before in recorded history. There are a growing number of factors contributing to this statistic, including but not limited to, the fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic, social media, burnout, lack of sleep, financial challenges, fears of the future, academic stress, social stress, and many more. Communication is difficult for all ages, but particularly at this age, finding comfort and safety to communicate their fears and struggles can be very difficult. We often use the phrase “meet you where you are” to describe the space we want to create for our clients, but what does that really mean? That means finding engaging and creative ways to interact with you in a way that makes you feel comfortable and safe. That can look like playing Uno while we talk, making crafts, going on a walk and talk, or a more traditional office setting, whatever makes you feel comfortable, we will always work to accommodate you.

Gaining tools regarding boundaries, communication, work/life balance, and more can help to mediate some of the anxiety and depression many adolescents deal with daily. Receiving and implementing these tools at a younger age allows for a stronger foundation as individuals reach young adulthood.

Young adulthood is one of the most abrupt shifts in social, emotional, and financial shifts we experience as human beings. Emerging into young adulthood is a time of self-discovery and uncovering life’s endless possibilities. This time in life is filled with lots of questioning around identity, establishing careers, higher-level education, financial concerns, and ever-changing social dynamics. Research has found that 18–25-year-olds take up a significant percentage of the highest rates of stress by age groups. While this time of self-exploration can be exciting, it can also be very stressful trying to live up to the expectations of “having it together”. Here at the Toolbox, we work to give you a space to explore self-discovery with no expectations or judgements. We want to work with you to give you the tools to increase autonomy, self-esteem, and confidence that allow you to choose the path you want for the future. If you are looking for a space to explore the future possibilities or need a place to address past trauma that still has a stronghold on your mental health, we would love to walk with you on your expedition into adulthood.
